Georgian alphabet
Georgian alphabet is currently used for writing in Georgia. There were three different alphabets in Georgian history (they are called Asomtavruli, Nuskhuri and Mkhedruli). However only Mkhedruli is used nowadays in modern language and therefore listed on this page. There are also obsolete letter in Mkhedruli which are not used anymore. These letters are excluded from table below. You may find it difficult to remember these letters at the beginning, but you will get used to them quite fast. If you are travelling to Georgia I recommend you to print out the table below. Road sings in Georgia are both in Mkhedruli and in Latin letters, but all the rest is only in Georgian alphabet. You may find influence of western society in today’s Georgia and Latin letters appear in advertisement, brand names and other places, but most of all texts are in Georgian.
